OBEDIENCE
It’s been over a month since I’ve posted on here. Life has been a little crazy with my album coming out, the death of my grandpa, and honestly, I haven't wanted to write. I felt God nudging me so strongly today to sit down and write so I thought I’d share some thoughts on obedience. Here we go.
You know that feeling you get in your stomach when you know something’s about to happen? The butterflies are flying like crazy and you think you might be sick. The sweat is covering your palms. Well, that’s kinda what I’m feeling in life right now. It’s an anxious feeling. It’s a feeling of knowing God might be calling me to change and honestly I don’t know if I’m ready.
I’ve had this feeling a couple times in my life. Not going to college, getting engaged after just a short period of dating, getting married at a young age, quitting my job to lead worship. Those are just a couple examples of times God has been nudging my spirit letting me know change is coming.
I’ve always had mixed feelings about change. I mainly like it when it’s something I want to happen. When I feel God telling me change is coming and it’s not something I was expecting I tend to resent it. In those moments I have to remember that God has always come through, He’s always been faithful even when I doubt Him.
When change is coming I have to hold tight to obedience.
Walking in obedience is something I’ve really been thinking about lately. I read a quote the other day that went something like this, “Satan never waits until he feels led to bring people into darkness so why do we wait until we feel led to obediently follow Christ?” Whew. That hit me to my core.
In my prayer time, I was telling God this quote and what I had been thinking about it. Tears began to fill my eyes and goosebumps covered my whole body. “You’ve got me, Father, I know you’ve got me.” These words left my lips in a whisper knowing my Dad in heaven will always take care of me no matter what change is coming.
Because here’s what I know to be true. All throughout the bible are stories of God calling people to something that is uncomfortable and scary. At that moment they are presented with a choice: to be obedient to God or to act like they never heard Him. We all saw how that worked out for Jonah.
Being obedient to God’s call on your life isn't easy and most of the time it’s really hard. But that’s what we’ve been called to do. As followers of Christ, our purpose is to spread the truth of Jesus in whatever way God tells us to. So let’s be brave. Let’s take a leap and see where we land. I’m right there with you, friend.
We must walk in obedience even when we’re afraid, knowing that we are never alone.
