God doesn't need us
“God doesn't need me”
A message I see popping up in my life over and over again. God doesn't need me, He chose me.
This truth is something I had never really thought about before. The maker of the universe doesn't need me? Of course He doesn’t. God chose to love me. He chose to forgive me.
Before I got married I heard a piece of marriage wisdom that I will hold onto forever. “Everyday you choose to love your spouse”. SO TRUE. Everyday I have to choose my marriage and choose my husband. It’s kind of like what God has done with us except He doesn't have to continually choose us everyday. His love is never-ending. His choice to love us was made in the beginning, it’s permanent.
Having the knowledge that God doesn't need me but chose me has radically changed my perspective. It might sound silly, but I have had to get used to the fact that this isn't all about me. In my humanness I forgot that the world is so much bigger than me. James tells us in chapter 4 verse 14, “for you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” Wow, that’s a slap in the face!
The truth of that verse is SO humbling and little disappointing if I’m being honest. I often walk through life thinking I’m invincible. I see the horrific headline and think something that horrible could never happen to me. Could it though? Who am I to say what God has planned?
I’m sure we’ve all heard the sayings about how short life can be. Tomorrow isn't promised, you never know when your last day will be, things like that. But do we really believe them? Have they ever really sunk in?
Many of us, whether we realize it or not, believe we are untouchable. We hear those sayings and just move on, thinking nothing of it. As much as we would rather ignore the truth behind these statements, we have to start believing them. We have to believe them enough that it changes how we live.
Our lives here are but a mist and we have to start living them knowing that God has chosen us. We were literally put here on this earth to glorify Christ with everything we do, that’s it. It’s always been about God, not us.
We must stop living selfishly and choose to love the people around us. We must live knowing that God has created us for a purpose. Our lives aren't meant to be wasted worrying about the things of this world, they were meant to be spent enjoying everyday God has blessed us with and rejoicing in Him!
God doesn't need you, He chose you.
Life is short.
To God be the glory.
Amen!
